ABILENE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Exemplary symphonic training and performance opportunities

A full symphony youth orchestra that provides a unique opportunity for the most serious and talented young musicians in the Big Country to perform advanced repertoire that will challenge and inspire.

BABY MUSIC OF ABILENE

Offering children and
their parents the chance
to learn and enjoy
music to enrich lives.

In partnership with Suzuki educators Joyce McGlaun
and Caitlin Clark, this program is a part of the
Philharmonic’s Academy of Music initiative to reach
students of all ages beginning as early as infancy.

DISCOVER MUSIC CHILDREN'S CONCERTS

An integral part of the Abilene Philharmonic’s season since 1955

Held annually at the Abilene Convention Center in October, the series reaches approximately 6,500 area students in fourth and fifth grade – including public, private and home-school. Our Music Director designs student-friendly programs alongside a local elementary music specialist who creates the Teacher’s Guide curriculum book, integrating with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines.

NELDA HODGES YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

Inspiring and rewarding young people’s love for music

The Abilene Philharmonic’s now annual Nelda Hodges Young Artist Competition was established in 2008 to help support outstanding young musicians in the Abilene area. The competition is open to woodwind, brass, percussion, string, and piano students between the ages of 12-18 that live in Texas School Regions 1-3, 5-10, 12, 14-19, and have not yet graduated high school.
